6 months

(I actually wrote this last week but never finished it so the timing of this isn’t right but I wanted to have all the correct info and milestones recorded so here is his belated 6 month update!)

We’ve had an exciting past few days in the Tomlinson house! Our sweet boy turned 6 months old last Friday, he had his first taste of pureed food on Sunday, and Russ and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary on Monday! I decided to make it easier on myself  so I came up with some structure to his monthly posts. This way I won’t ramble too much or leave anything out! So… here goes his 6 month update… HALF A YEAR… I have no idea where the time goes but it goes entirely too fast.

Size: I  thinks we had his weight a little high for his 5 month update since we weighed him using our scale at home. Either way, we think he has finally hit a plateau with the weight gain. He weighed 19 lbs 13 ounces at his 6 month visit which puts him in the 86th percentile for weight. He was 29 inches long and is still in the 99th percentile for height. He in size 3 diapers (about to move up to size 4) and wearing mostly 6-12 month clothes. Thankful for our big and healthy boy!

Milestones: This was a big month for developmental milestones! Everett started rolling from back to tummy this past month and sitting up on his own! He sat up by himself on the carpet for the first time the day he turned 6 months old. He has been doing it on the bed for a week or so, but is just now getting sturdy enough on harder surfaces. His core strength is really good and if he starts to fall backwards he will crunch himself up and usually keep himself from falling. Strong boy! A not-so-fun milestone this past month has been teething. BOO! As of the day he turned 6 months, he has 2 white specs that have broken the through on his bottom gums. They are taking their sweet time coming in though, and causing our sweet boy lots of discomfort. We are surviving with tons of frozen teethers and cold pacis that I keep in the freezer. He has to be chewing on something at all times!

Sleep: Well, I got a tiny glimpse of what it would be like to sleep longer than 2 hours at a time! When he was 5.5 months he slept for 9 HOURS straight! The next night he did a 6.5 hour stretch and a 7 hour stretch the night after that. Those 3 nights were great but it was short lived, ha! The teething (we think) is really bothering him again and he is up several times a night again. It is a challenging season of sleep deprivation for me but the Lord is teaching me a lot through it and carrying me every step of the way. He really has to carry me through the day when I only get 2 or 3 hours of total sleep the night before ;) He always starts out in his crib for the first stretch of sleep and sometimes goes back down in the crib for another stretch but sometimes come to our bed. Every night is a little different.  Also, we do think his reflux has really improved this past month so that is a huge praise!

Eating: Up until he turned 6 months he was still exclusively breastfed but we tried solids the weekend he turned 6 months. I will write all about solids in his 7 month update :)

Favorites & Other Fun Stuff: Some of his favorite things this past month have been… chewing on frozen teethers and frozen washcloths, cold pacis, playing in the pool, being naked, Sophie, drooling, smiling and laughing, being tickled by Daddy, dancing with Mommy, watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (he hates the car so he watches this on the iPad in the car and he loves it), giving kisses (aka eating your face), his new swing at Lolly & T-Daddy’s house, going on boat rides (except for his lifejacket- he hates it), singing silly songs, a fun visit from Aunt Bray Bray while Daddy was out of the country for a week, and a fun trip to Irmo to Nana and Pappy’s house!

Moments I never want to forget from this month: Celebrating my very first Mother’s Day as your mommy, the way you looked at your Daddy after he got home from being out of the country for a week (You kept touching his face and smiling bigger than I have ever seen then looking back at me as if to say “Mom, do you see this! Its Daddy! We missed him!” I nearly died right then and there and wanted to freeze that moment forever.) The way you laugh uncontrollably when I am towel drying my hair when I get out of the shower, dancing with you in the kitchen, watching Daddy show you our garden and walk around the backyard with you when he gets home from work, dancing with you in the kitchen, and the way you have to hold my face with one of your hands while rocking to sleep for your naps and at bedtime. You are the sweetest thing in the entire world and just when we think you can’t possibly get any sweeter… you do! We love you something fierce sweet boy.
